Nation’s lead
organisation.

End Food Waste Australia is the nation’s leading organisation for improving the Australian food system’s productivity, resilience and sustainability. By providing ongoing research and development, core strategies and infrastructures we deliver evidence-based solutions to food-chain enterprises, working toward a more sustainable future from paddock to plate.

OUR MISSION

An Australia
without food waste.

We’re working towards an Australia without food waste – starting with halving food waste by 2030. By leading the delivery of Australia’s National Food Waste Strategy, we are driven to eliminate food insecurity, create a healthier planet and build a more sustainable, circular, and resilient food system for the future.

We help establish the link between government, businesses, industry bodies, retailers and consumers to help uncover mutually beneficial collaborations and optimise workflows. Our team has over 15 years of experience in global food waste solutions and have the expertise to facilitate meaningful change.

End Food Waste Australia is already making a big difference. We have formed the world’s largest dedicated public-private partnership of over 100 organisations focused on ending food waste.

We have established the Australian Food Pact and Sector Action Plans to guide effective change. Having led comprehensive research in consumer food waste behaviours, we have uncovered new technologies for transforming valuable food waste into new resources and developed efficient practices for businesses to capitalise on. Food waste is a problem we can solve, but we can’t do it alone.

Fight Food Waste Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) and Stop Food Waste Australia have come together to become End Food Waste Australia. Our vision is an Australian without food waste, starting with halving food waste by 2030.
Our History

In 2018, an initiative called Fight Food Waste CRC was facilitated and funded to undertake research to find new strategies for reducing food waste. In 2020, a subsidiary called Stop Food Waste was established as a platform for businesses to collaborate and roll-out new systems to reduce their food waste. Realising that it would be more beneficial to combine both Fight Food Waste CRC and Stop Food Waste together, the two have merged to create End Food Waste Australia. Combining under one united brand empowers us to collaborate across research, industry, consumers and government to foster real change.

Stop Food Waste Australia

Stop Food Waste Australia was established in December 2020 as the lead agency to coordinate Australia’s response to the goal of halving food waste by 2030. It operates as an impactful partnership of organisations along the farm-to-fork food supply chain, including all levels of government, industry and the food rescue sector. SWFA’s activities are supported by the Australian Government Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water.

Fight Food Waste CRC

The Fight Food Waste Cooperative Research Centre was launched in July 2018, and brings together industry, research and the community to capitalise on Australia’s food waste opportunities. Winning this fight can save Australia $36.6 billion per annum in wasted food. Through its three research and development programs, the Fight Food Waste CRC will ENGAGE with industry and consumers to REDUCE food waste across the supply chain and TRANSFORM unavoidable waste into innovative products.

The Fight Food Waste CRC is funded by the Australian Government’s Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources as part of the CRC Program that supports industry-led collaborations between industry, researchers and the community.
