Mandy Hall fermenting change in new role with Fight Food Waste Limited

Australia’s leading food waste action partnership Fight Food Waste Limited is delighted to appoint food waste advocate and MasterChef alumna Mandy Hall to the leadership team.

Hall joined Fight Food Waste Limited on 17 April to lead communications and engagement to help Australia reach the target of halving food waste by 2030.

Hall is a seasoned food waste advocate, cook and fermentation expert, and professional communicator who has used her platform as a MasterChef alumna to advance community and industry-wide knowledge about food waste.

Fight Food Waste Limited Chief Executive Officer Dr Steven Lapidge said Mandy is a natural fit for the organisation following years of food waste advocacy.

“Mandy’s passion for food waste action, her extensive and authentic engagement with the people who grow, make, move, sell and buy Australia’s food, and as a skilled storyteller and communicator make her a perfect appointment for the role.”

Fight Food Waste Limited is the largest public-private partnership of its kind, with its work including industry-driven research and development through the Fight Food Waste Cooperative Research Centre (CRC), and the delivery of Australia’s National Food Waste Strategy, including the Australian Food Pact and Sector Action Plans, through Stop Food Waste Australia.

Australia wastes 7.6 million tonnes of food a year – the equivalent of each person throwing away 24 burgers a week – and costs the Australian economy $36.6 billion a year, Dr Lapidge explains.

“Supporting businesses and people to reduce their food waste will help them save money. Redirecting surplus food will also help feed the 1 in 6 Australian adults and 1.2 million children who have gone hungry in the last 12 months, and is one of the most impactful ways to tackle climate change,” says Dr Lapidge.

Mandy Hall says no one wants to waste food, yet we know that one third of all food still never gets eaten.

“I’m excited to work alongside Fight Food Waste’s passionate team and their committed industry, government and research partners to  fight food waste from paddock to plate. My role represents an incredible opportunity to help make a significant difference to a global issue that we all need to fight against” Mandy says.

Hall will be located at Fight Food Waste Limited’s Head Office in Adelaide, at the Waite Research Centre.
