At the end of last year, our organisation underwent a major milestone as we rebranded under one banner to become End Food Waste Australia. Since then, our team has been working on a comprehensive Strategic Business Plan that will guide our efforts to halve food waste by 2030, aligning with the National Food Waste Strategy and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 12.3).
On 24 and 25 July over 300 people from across industry, research and government joined End Food Waste Australia at the 2024 National Food Waste Summit in Melbourne where EFWA CEO, Dr Steven Lapidge launched our full comprehensive plan for the next five years.
Our vision is clear: to deliver a more productive, sustainable, and resilient Australian food system by ending food waste and food insecurity. This ambitious plan will be formally launched on Wednesday at the National Food Waste Summit in Melbourne, and we are eager to unveil it to all our stakeholders who have been vital in our progress.
Highlights of our Strategic Business Plan:
By 2030, we aim to halve food waste with a reduction of 4.6MT annually, achieving the National Food Waste Strategy & UN SDG12.3 targets. This will avoid 50MT CO2-eq GHG emissions and deliver an additional $1.2B in economic benefits to businesses through the Australian Food Pact.
We believe collaboration, integrity, purpose, and performance are the cornerstones of achieving these ambitious targets. Your support and engagement have been and will continue to be crucial to our success.
Thank you for to all our participants, partners, signatories and stakeholders for your continued support and commitment to our mission. Together, we can make a significant impact and drive the change needed to end food waste in Australia.
END.
