Unlocking opportunities for Aussie farmers: Melissa Smith’s Churchill Fellowship report released

How can we support Aussies farmers to sell more of their crops, and make the most of resources?

That’s the question Melissa Smith, horticulture expert and farmer, explored last year through a global-first project.

Melissa was awarded a Churchill Fellowship, a prestigious program that allows Australians to travel overseas and bring back global best practices, made possible with the support of Hort Innovation and End Food Waste Australia.

The GROWING SOLUTIONS REPORT: Global Innovations Fighting Fruit and Vegetable Waste on Farms report – packed with insights, case studies and opportunities is out now – and features 7 actionable, “shovel-ready” recommendations for industry implementation.

“Through site visits, interviews, and collaborative discussions with industry leaders, I studied diverse approaches in different countries to identify adaptable solutions for the Australian context, ” said Smith.

Melissa Smith’s Churchill Fellowship reveals that reducing on-farm food waste isn’t just a challenge, it’s an opportunity to drive a triple win – for the planet, people and for farmers’ profits.
